Investigations are currently ongoing into a fire-outbreak which claimed the lives of seven female students on Sunday night following a fire-outbreak which engulfed the hostel of a boarding school near the northern city of Kano.

According to reports, most of the deaths were as a result of a stampede following the outbreak with about a hundred student running for their dear lives in a bid to escape the raging fire through two exits.

The students of the government-run girls school located at Jogana village, were asleep when the fire started and reports say fire-fighters battled for hours to put out the inferno.

Twenty five other students were also injured in the outbreak and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital while authorities have closed the boarding school with a full investigation into the fire now underway.
