Sevilla end Real Madrid’s unbeaten run

Spanish side Sevilla FC defeated Real Madrid 2-1 to end their 40-match unbeaten run as Stevan Jovetic scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner in their La Liga clash on Sunday.

Both teams couldn’t net in a goal in the first half, and not until the 67th minute did Cristiano Ronaldo put the visitors ahead with a penalty after Dani Carvajal was fouled by Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

Sergio Ramos’ own goal against his former club five minutes before the end of regulation time levelled the scores, before substitute Jovetic beat Kaylor Navas from distance in 93 minutes to give the home team the win.

This is Real’s first defeat since April 6, 2016. And their lead at the top of the La Liga table has been cut to one point, although they have one game in hand over their title rivals.

Sevilla now move above Barcelona to second in the table.

The Zinedine Zidane’s side will play Malaga on January 21 in their week 19 fixture, while Sevilla will take on Osasuna the following day.
