Alleged randy OAU lecturer deletes Facebook account

Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University have been urged to make a formal complaint against embattled Professor Richard Akindele the alleged randy lecturer who was caught on tape requesting for sex from one of his female students in exchange for marks.

That much information was revealed by Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, the Public Relations Officer of the OAU, who revealed that the university authorities have queried the lecturer accused of demanding sex to upgrade a female student’s poor result.

Speaking on Wednesday during a radio programme on Rave FM in Osogbo, the state capital, Mr Olarenwaju said the university had started investigation into the allegation against Professor Akindele.

He said, “We have put machinery in motion to ascertain the veracity of the claims and identify the characters involved. As I am talking to you now, the management has taken a position which we will be working on now. On the day that the audio was leaked, the vice chancellor and other principal officers of the university acted, including the legal director of the university. We set up a committee and the vice chancellor gave the committee one week to submit its report. After that, we will know what to do.

“The incident happened last year. We have been calling her (the student’s) line, but she is not responding to her calls again. We learnt that she confided in someone that she did not want the appointment of the man (lecturer) to be terminated because of her case. The panel has been set up and query has been given to the man; but we need somebody to come up that she was the one that was sexually harassed and the person is not in sight.”

Reacting to the scandal in a statement, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, the Vice Chancellor of the university, said the institution had zero tolerance for sexual harassment while also assuring that Professor Akindele will be made to face the music if he is found culpable.

The statement by the VC of OAU reads in part; “Since the matter came to our notice, the university has begun the process of identifying the characters involved in this apparent breach of its regulations.

“The university has set up a high-powered committee to investigate the allegation and submit its report within one week. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with decisively”.

Meanwhile, the wife of OAU lecturer who demanded five rounds of sex from a female student before she can pass his course has denied the allegations against her husband saying the devil is out to tarnish her husband’s reputation.

Reacting to the recorded phone conversation of the professor who is also a clergyman at the Anglican Diocese of Ife, Osun State, one of the church members said they went to the professor’s house immediately the news broke on social media.

”When we heard the news, some of us were surprised. We were at his house very early this (Tuesday) morning but only met his wife who said the devil is at work to soil the name of her husband,” he said.

However, another church member said there will be no need for a computer test on the leaked audio as the voice is definitely that of the professor.

”There is no need for any computer to test the voice. The voice in the leaked audio is exactly that of Reverend Richard Akindele. However, the man is too gentle for such act. The lady purposely set him up.” he said
