Shakespeare, Morgan impressed with Iheanacho

Leicester City Boss Craig Shakespeare and captain Wes Morgan have both praised Super Eagles star, Kelechi Iheanacho, backing him to do a “great job” at the club.

Iheanacho, who recently joined the Foxes from Manchester City, had his first run out in Leicester shirt in a brief appearance in their friendly match against Bundesliga side, Borussia Monchengladbach, last week.

In the debut, the 20-year old assisted English striker, Jamie Vardy, to grab the winner in the game that ended 2-1 in Leicester’s favour.

Following the performance, Shakespeare told the club’s website that he had already seen signs of Iheanacho forming a good partnership with Jamie Vardy.

“They can play together, most definitely,” he said.

“You’ve seen how they linked up, and good players can. I thought he was really unselfish for a player making his debut.

“You would probably think he might take that chance himself, but to spot Jamie, to play that in with the weight of pass he did for Jamie to finish it, it shows his awareness and his unselfishness.”

Shakespeare added: “He’s young, he’s a good goalscorer, you see that he can link play up, his all-around game. He`s only going to get better. His goalscoring record is excellent.

“He gives us another dimension. He wants to get better, he wants to play regularly and hopefully we can give him that platform.”

Meanwhile, the team captain, Wes Morgan, has admitted he’d already been very impressed with the club’s newest signing, Iheanacho.

“He’s a very, very good player,” Morgan told Sky Sport.

“He’s sharp and quick and he’s definitely got an eye for goal. We did a round-robin tournament today and he was on my team. He popped up with some great goals from impossible positions, which is refreshing.

“It’s good to see someone with that knowhow, someone with a different acuteness that adds something to the team. I think he’ll come and do a great job for us.”

Leicester will begin their Premier League campaign away to Arsenal on Friday, and Iheanacho, who picked up an injury during his debut, has reportedly recovered and will start on the bench.
