SHANGHAI MASTERS: Nadal, Federer advance to semis, on course to meet in final

Top seeds Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have made it to the last 4 of the Shanghai Masters and remain on course to meet each other in the final.

On Friday, World no. 1, Nadal beat Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 to register his 15th consecutive win and will face fourth seed Marin Cilic in the semis.

The second semifinal clash will be between second seed Federer and 16th seed Juan Martin del Potro, who overcame an injury scare to beat Victor Troicki 4-6 6-1 6-4, while Federer beat Richard Gasquet 7-5 6-4.

Having won two Grand slams and four other titles this season, Spaniard Nadal is chasing his seventh title this year.

He is set to face rival Federer of Del Potro in the final, and the only person standing on his way is Cilic, who secured his last 4 spot with a routine victory over Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Meanwhile, there was a worry for Del Potro midway through the third set of his victory over Victor. The Argentine appeared to have picked up a wrist injury, but is set to face Federer, who he beat in the quarter-finals of the US Open last month.
