Sheriff is authentic PDP chairman, Appeal Court declares
The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt on Friday ruled that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is the authentic chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This may bring to an end the protracted crisis in the party that has created factions as to who is the chairman of the opposition party which was in power from 1999 to 2015.
The Friday judgment set aside an earlier ruling by Justice Mohammed Liman of the High court in the same place who had declared Senator Ahmed Makarfi, head of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, the authentic national chairman of the PDP.

Both factions of the party had earlier declared their willingness to abide by whatever ruling the Appeal Court declares with a view to bringing lasting peace to the party.
The case has seen different courts of competent jurisdiction and status giving varying and opposing orders and rulings.
