The committee headed by Hope Uzodinma kick-started the voting process at 4:24pm, with 677 accredited delegates casting their votes, according to their local government areas.

Two aspirants were cleared to take part in the primary; Johnson Agbonayima and Matthew Iduoriyekemwen.

However  Agbonayima, member representing Egor and Ikpoba-Okha federal constituency announced he was stepping down ‎Iduoriyekemwen.

The Ahmed Makarfi-led leadership of the party has always maintained that Sheriff is working with the opposition APC to destabilse the party, and spoil its chances to present a good fight in the Edo governorship contest.
