After shock defeat, Casemiro urges Madrid to work harder

Following Sunday’s 2-1 embarrassing loss to newly promoted Girona, Casemiro has urged his Real Madrid teammates to “play better and work harder” ahead of subsequent games.

Isco put the champions ahead in the 12th minute, but two quick second half goals by Cristhian Stuani and Portu gave the home side the victory.

The defeat at Estadi Montilivi leaves Real eight points off the pace in La Liga after a sluggish start to the campaign by Zinedine Zidane’s side.

“We have to play better and work harder than this,” Casemiro said.

“We have to stay calm too but we did not play well and we did not create enough opportunities to win the game.

“We can’t look for any excuses as ultimately we did not create as many chances as we normally do, and you must congratulate Girona for their role in that.

“The league table? The gap between us and our rivals is a concern but we must stay focused as we will still have chances to win this league”, he added.

Next up for Madrid is a midweek trip to Wembley to play Tottenham Hotspur in a matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League.
