The Nigerian Army on Friday said the Boko Haram terror group on Friday killed six people at a mosque in Damboa, Borno state after a bomber blew himself up.

Colonel Sani Usman, the Nigerian Army spokesman who disclosed this said that the attack took place at about 5:15 am (0415 GMT) in Damboa, a town about 90 kilometres southwest of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The army spokesman who blamed the attack on two Boko Haram terrorists said, “The first suicide bomber targeted Damboa Central Mosque but due to stringent security measures he could not gain entry. Obviously frustrated, he exploded and died near the central mosque.”

“However, the second bomber veered off and gained entry into another smaller mosque and detonated the bomb, killing himself and six other worshippers and injuring one other person.”

Those wounded during the attack, according to him were immediately evacuated to a hospital while efforts are on to clear the rubble.

“Troops and other security agencies have been mobilised to the area,” he added.

The attack is coming as Nigerians, especially those in the North East had thought that there was no recorded attack during the Wednesday and Thursday Sallah celebrations despite rumours of the terrorist group striking during the ceremony.
