#TGIF Six real reasons Toke couldn’t let go of Maje

“What do you do when the one person you want comfort from the most is the one who caused your pain? How can I want so desperately for him to wrap me up in his arms but also want so much for him to leave me alone?”

The above lines from the book ‘But I Love Him’ by American author― Amanda Grace, aptly captures the mind-set of popular radio personality cum chatterbox Vlogger, Toke Makinwa when she discovered that her fitness training expert ex-hubby, Maje Ayida had impregnated his old flame, Anita Solomon- a development which forced Toke to give up her marriage.

But before she sought to officially severe ties with Maje by filling a divorce petition at the Lagos State High Court in June this year, Toke had decided to put up a fight against Maje’s emotional domination in a tough battle which she has won from all indications.

She spared no effort to purge herself of whatever emotions she may have bottled up in the course of her relationship with Maje and there was no better way to tell her story than when she took the bold step of publishing a book entitled “On Becoming…” chronicling her personal life with particular focus on her torrid relationship with Maje- the man who was supposed to be her ‘knight of shining armour’.

The pain she felt in her heart made her once post on Instagram saying “My set back was a blessing! I survived what was meant to destroy me. I came back like a boss…fabulous, wiser and stronger than ever”, comments which give credence to the fact that, sometimes, it is better to “let out, in order to let go”.

Those remarks came after she discovered that Maje had infected her with STD, broke her heart, cheated on her many times, got his baby mama pregnant while married to her, caused her to bleach her skin, and almost drove her to commit suicide by drinking Dettol.

But one thing was for sure, and that was the fact that Maje (who is yet to reply Toke’s claims) was emotionally dominant while the affair lasted and listed below are six real reasons why Toke found it very hard to let him go after all she claimed he did to her.

1.    Maje was her first love.

2.    She wanted to marry him and become the mother of his kids

3.    He made her bleach her skin.

4.    She invested in his business.

5.    He dominated her emotionally.

6.    They both dated for a very long time.
