S’KOREA: Special prosecutors grill Park over influence-peddling scandal

Disgraced and impeached South Korean President Park Geun-hye met with special prosecutors in Seoul for questioning in connection to a corruption scandal that toppled her.

Park who had evaded scrutiny using executive privilege to avoid them for months while in office, apologised to the public as she arrived at the prosecutors’ office in Seoul on Tuesday, adding: “I will undergo the investigation sincerely.”

Park, 65, faces a number of charges from abuse of power to bribery, and is the fourth former South Korean leader to be probed or jailed over corruption scandals.

About a week and a half ago, Park noted moments after leaving the presidential Blue House that the truth behind her travails will be revealed in a matter of time.

She made the comments two days after a court dismissed her over a corruption scandal, even as she now faces life as a private citizen and also the possibility of serving jail time.

Park who is the leader to be ousted from office accepted responsibility for the events that culminated in the Constitutional Court upholding a parliamentary impeachment vote over an influence-peddling scandal that has shaken the political and business elite in South Korea.
