SocialMediaTrends: Backlash trails Wike’s remarks against Abuja property owners
Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike has incurred the wrath of Nigerians after he allegedly used uncouth language and insulting words on some residents of Lugbe over land grabbing allegations.
According to reports, the former Rivers State was on a visit to the Lugbe district on Tuesday following a recent protest by resident who prevented government officials from demolishing their properties.
While addressing a group who claimed to be land developers, the Minister was heard using foul languages on them which has drawn condemnation by many Nigerians on social media.
While giving the group a lecture on how to acquire land legally, the Minister was heard saying:
“It cannot work. You cannot come to a place and seize land and say it is your own. We will not allow that. If not for lawlessness… If you do not know what to do, we will teach you what to do.”
The residents who refuted the minister’s claim that they were land grabbers, said they had documents to prove legal ownership of the land.
“We are not land grabbers, we are developers. We have papers. We have submitted these papers to the authorities,” they chorused.
But the response seemed to anger Wike who unloaded on them with;
“Shut up! Who told you you can talk? Is it because I came down to talk to you? If you think that you take something… you are not the only one. Be careful. Stupid.
“Every land in the FCT belongs to the FCT. The supreme court said the area councils do not have that power to allot land. And that was why the area councils came to us to grant them that request.
“The only thing you can do is go to court. If you like harass us. I will not settle you because you have taken laws into your hands.”

The insulting words used by Wike on Nigerian citizens has not gone down well with many Nigerians who have voiced out their disagreement.
“See the arrogance of Nyesom Wike. Because he rounded himself with armed men, he speaks to Nigerian citizens anyhow. Anyway, power is transient. He once held it at Rivers State, today, he’s no longer in charge. Tomorrow, FCT will be in the hands of others. Maybe then the new Minister will remind him that the lands and houses he acquired in FCT belong to the FCT and not his.” – @betacuntri
