Soldiers rescue 51 hostages from Boko Haram captivity

51 persons taken hostage by Boko Haram insurgents were on Tuesday rescued by troops of the Nigerian Army attached to Operation Lafiya Dole in the Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to the military, the 51 hostages were located by the troops on Tuesday after a gun battle with the insurgents during which two of the fighters were killed.

According to the army in a statement on Wednesday, a gun truck, two AK-47 rifles and one anti-aircraft gun were recovered from the insurgents.

According to the statement, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, had ordered troops to ensure a peaceful atmosphere nationwide for citizens and residents as this year’s ember months roll in.
