‘Solid minerals can generate 10m jobs’

The nation’s solid mineral sector has the potential to generate over 10 million jobs for the country if well-harnessed, President of Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Professor Olugbenga Okunlola has said.

Okunlola gave this hint in Kaduna on Thursday.

According to the NMGS boss, the over 44 mineral deposits across 800 locations in the country if well explored can help to create jobs for the teaming youths.

“Nigeria is endowed with current known 44 mineral types in Nigeria in about 800 locations. This sector will generate nothing less than ten million new jobs. So the potential is huge and turnover within three years is sure if the current administration has political will to support the sector.”

He however lamented that the steady decline in the mineral resources sector for over 25 years coupled with poor investment has militated against the growth in the sector.
