Soon, customers can summon Uber's self driving cabs

American multinational online transportation network company Uber is about to cross an important milestone that no automotive or technology company has yet achieved as it prepares to allow customers in downtown Pittsburgh to summon self-driving cars.

Once launched, human’s in the driver’s seat will supervise the custom Volvo XC90s which will come outfitted with dozens of sensors that use cameras, lasers, radar, and GPS receivers.

The city of Pittsburgh is home to Carnegie Mellon University’s robotics department, which has produced many of the biggest names in the competitive field of robotics.
