Sorry, I can't appear before you Wednesday, Customs CG Ali writes Senate

The Controller-General (CG) of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali, has written to the Senate, informing it of his inability to appear before the Red Chamber.

In a letter written and signed on his behalf by a deputy CG, Ali said the date chosen by the Senate is coinciding with his monthly meeting, adding that a new date should be agreed upon when he will appear.

The content of the letter infuriated lawmakers who murmured, while the Clerk to the Senate read the letter.

Senate Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, in his submission, said he felt slighted and expressed his displeasure. He however shocked his colleagues when he begged them to adopt a new date.

Senator James Manager, disagreed sharply with the Senate Leader. He said the Senate should not accept the position canvassed by the Senate Leader. He urged his colleagues to remain firm and insist on his appearance tomorrow.

“I think this is an insult of the highest order. I met a powerful Senate in 2003 and I believe it is still powerful. The Senate is the highest law making body in the country. We must insist on his appearance. If we fail to do this, we will lose our respect,” Manager said.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki in his remarks, said the Senate Leader spoke based on his position. He said the position of the Senate is clear and that the Customs boss will appear in uniform tomorrow.

I think Manager needs to provide more insight on what he meant by “I think this is an insult of the highest order,” Ali has in no way insulted the senate by saying he won’t appear, the senate should not expect him to leave his monthly tradition for some questioning about his competence in front of the senators.

The senators will be acting like they are God who created all politicians, Ali’s reason for not appearing on Wednesday is understandable, they should agree and fix another date instead.

I am keen to see powerful Senate becoming useless tomorrow. They will get to know that they don’t just order a person anyhow as if the person has no other reasonable things to do. Ride on Alli and don’t disappoint me.

You are right. It is high time the executives show themselves higher in power and authority than the senators. They are meant to make laws and not to command the executives.

You don’t need to see the end but you know the end that means Ali will put them to shame because they deserve it

Ali was once a military man and you don’t order a military man anyhow. The Senate should either allow him show up tomorrow without uniform or change the date so he can appear in uniform. Lol
