SOUTH AFRICA: Lioness mauls 22-yr-old woman to death

Tragedy struck at a private game reserve north of South Africa’s administrative capital, Pretoria when a lioness mauled a victim identified as a 22-year-old woman to death.

Nick Dollman spokesman for a local emergency service, Netcare 911 said the service had responded to a call of a lioness attack in Hammanskraal town.

“Tragically, the victim had sustained severe injuries and she died at the scene,” Mr Dollman said.

According to reports, it is unclear what led to the attack but bystanders did their best to revive the victim by initiating CPR [cardiopulmonary resuscitation] to no avail.
