South African Parliament to discuss Zuma's sacking of finance minister

A motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma will be debated by South Africa‘s parliament on April 18 according to the national assembly after he sacked finance minister Pravin Gordhan.

There has been a growing backlash against Zuma over his action to fire Gordhan from opposition parties and civil society.

Previous no-confidence motions against Zuma have failed as the ruling African National Congress party has a commanding majority.

Zuma’s sacking of Gordan shook South African financial markets and increased the chances of costly downgrades to its investment grade sovereign ratings.

Gordan has been replaced by financial expert Malusi Gigaba.
