South African special envoys arrive Aso Villa for meeting with Buhari

The three special envoys sent by South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, have arrived the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting cane on the heels of violent xenophobic attacks targeted at foreigners in the Southern African country, including Nigerians, leading to killings, looting and burning of business premises belonging to foreigners.

It would be recalled that President Buhari had earlier sent the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai-Abubakar to President Ramaphosa to register Nigeria’s displeasure with the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in that country.

The visit of the special envoys is seen as a move by the government of South Africa to avoid a major diplomatic row with Nigeria.

The envoys, led by the Acting South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Bobby Monroe, arrived at the Villa by 2.15pm.
