South Africa's ruling party plans to force Zuma out of office, reports say

The end seems near for embattled South African President Jacob Zuma as daggers seem to have been drawn against him with reports suggesting that the country’s ruling party are making plans to force him out of office.

Reports filtering in from South Africa revealed that the executive of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) met on Saturday to outline the party’s programme for the coming year and one of the party’s resolution for 2018 is to force Zuma out of office.

However, an ANC spokeswoman declined to comment on reports that its newly-elected National Executive Committee (NEC) had resolved to ask Zuma to resign.

“We can’t confirm rumours of things that we don’t know. The NEC has issued a statement on the totality of discussions yesterday,” the ANC spokeswoman said.

Four days ago, the Deputy President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa called on prosecutors to hasten action in pursuit of a firm owned by friends of the scandal-plagued leader.

The call by Ramaphosa is came as authorities in South Africa launched an offensive against companies controlled by the Gupta family, businessmen friends of Zuma who are accused of unduly using political connections to win work with the state.
