SOUTH KOREA: 8 feared dead after fishing boat capsized

Tragedy struck off South Korea’s western coast when no less than eight victims lost their lives and two people declared missing after their boat collided with a refuelling vessel.

Briefing newsmen after the incident, a coast guard official said the boat was carrying two sailors and 20 passengers when the collision occurred in waters near Incheon west of Seoul.

The coast guard official also added that a search and rescue operation involving five helicopters and 19 vessels is underway.

According to the coast guard, the reason for the collision has yet to be confirmed and those rescued from the water have been sent to nearby hospitals.
