South Korea issues stern warning to N’Korea over shooting of its soldier

Authorities in South Korea have issued a stern warning to their North Korean counterparts over the shooting of its soldier thereby violating an armistice agreement signed by both countries.

South Korea issued the warning after North Korean soldiers shot and wounded another North Korean soldier as he defected across their border saying the pariah nation must not do so again.

The warning was issued by South Korean Minister of Defence Song Young-moo and it is coming at a time of heightened tension between North Korea and the international community over its nuclear weapons programme.

“Shooting towards the South at a defecting person, that’s a violation of the armistice agreement,” Song said.

“Crossing the military demarcation line is a violation. Carrying automatic rifles (in the JSA), another violation,” he added as he stood near where South Korean soldiers had found Oh, collapsed and bleeding from his wounds.

“North Korea should be informed this sort of thing should never occur again.”

Two months ago, the government of Malaysia banned its citizens from travelling to North Korea led by defiant and headstrong leader, Kim Jong Un due to its increasing ballistic missile activities.

The government of Malaysia made the development known after its foreign ministry announced the ban in a statement Thursday and said that it would last until further notice.

The statement cited North Korea’s missile tests and related developments. North Korea has been targeted in recent months by stricter sanctions and increasing diplomatic pressure, with Kuwait and Mexico expelling its envoys in recent weeks.
