Southern Kaduna: Buhari mere issuing of directive not satisfactory, CAN says

The Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), has frowned at the belated statement of President Muhammadu Buhari over the killings in southern Kaduna by suspected Fulani herdsmen, describing it as not satisfactory.

President Muhammadu, after weeks of lashing and lambasting by many Nigerians over his silence on the killings of over 800 Christian indigenes of southern Kaduna, last week directed security agencies to put an end to the murderous carnage.

However, Ondo State CAN Chairman, Rev. John Ayo Oladapo while addressing newsmen on Sunday evening after the end of the prayer session on the fasting and mourning over the massacre, said President Buhari statement was a mere rhetoric that cannot solve the problem.

“The situation on ground on the activities of criminals under the disguise of herdsmen has gone beyond mere issuing of directive, which came after many days after the incident. The Federal Government had been so passive on the issue of Southern Kaduna. What the president said on the issue was not satisfactory because that had been the usual statement of government.

“The president swore to an oath to protect lives and property of all Nigerians irrespective of religion, occupation and areas. What is happening, particularly on the issue of the Southern Kaduna is unacceptable. What we are doing is a form of protest. We are protesting the killings of our people in Southern Kaduna and the Federal Government attitude to the issue. The killing is not only in Kaduna but also in other parts of the country,” he said.

Oladapo therefore called on state government in the country to emulate Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who caused the State House of Assembly to make law to control grazing of animals in the state as a way of stemming the activities of herdsmen.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Council of Imams and Ulama, on Monday asked the Federal Government to arrest and prosecute those who aggravated the crisis in southern Kaduna through inflammatory and false statements.

In a press briefing in Kaduna by the group Chairman, Sheik Abubakar Babantune and Secretary, Aminu Ibrahim, it said that the inflammatory utterances of religious and political leaders in the area had led to the merciless massacre of hundreds of Hausa/Fulani Muslims in the area.

The council then asked government to arrest and prosecute Senator Danjuma La’ah, who represents the area at the Senate and Sunday Marshal-Katung, a member of the House of Representatives.

Listed to be arrested include Rev. Zacahriah Gado of 19 DCC Fellowship, CAN President Samson Ayokunle, CAN Secretary General Musa Asake, John Danfulani, and Solomon Musa, SOKAPU President, for their alleged roles in encouraging killings in the area.

If all states would go by the same actions of Ekiti State government, there may no longer be herdsmen, and we may all suffer from it. Meat is important.

Southern Kaduna killings is not internally motivated so CAN should get that. The herdsmen are from Niger. Not Fulanis of Nigeria.

If Buhari wasn’t concerned, he wouldn’t have released any statement. Him giving directives is an act of concern also. CAN want him to tell them what he his doing to stop the killings or what?

Eeeeayah. So you want buhari to be quick in making rash decision, leave baba go slow alone and let him be. He has so many things to attend to.

Many things to attend to indeed. If it were to be the Niger delta militants that strike once, am sure buhari won’t hesitate to make comments that same day because he values money more than the lives of Nigerians.
