Spain’s minister tests positive to coronavirus as Iran’s cases exceed 10,000

The minister of equality in Spain, Irene Montero, has tested positive to the deadly coronavirus also known as COVID-19 which originated in Wuhan, China and has quickly spread across the globe.

According to a government statement issued on Thursday, Montero has been quarantined with her partner identified as, deputy prime minister and Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias.

“The minister (Irene Montero) is in a good condition and second deputy prime minister Pablo Iglesias is also in quarantine due to the situation,” the statement said.

“This morning, all members of the government will undergo testing,” it added, indicating the results would be published later in the day.

Meanwhile, authorities in Iran have reported 75 new deaths from the deadly coronavirus in the past 24 hours, with the health ministry stating that the new figures brings the death toll there to 429.

“We have identified 1,075 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, meaning that there are 10,075 infected people in the country. The death toll is 429,” Health Ministry spokesman Kianush Jahanpur told state television.
