Spanish model crowned Miss World 2015

23 year-old Spanish model, Mireia Lalaguna Royo, emerged winner of the keenly contested 2015 edition of the Miss World beauty pageant staged in Sanya, China.

Royo, who now takes over the crown from 2014 winner, Rolene Strauss of South Africa, was chosen as the overall winner among
five other finalists from Russia, Lebanon, Indonesia and Jamaica.

In her speech after being crowned winner, Royo, who hails from
Barcelona and is very active on Instagram said; “Just because I am
beautiful on the outside does not mean I am not beautiful on the
inside, too.”

Continuing, the model, who has a degree in Pharmacology and wants to do an MA in Nutrition said:
“I think I should be the next Miss World because I believe in strong
women, I also think I have something inside my heart that I always try to give the best of me. I also believe in beauty with a purpose and want to continue its legacy. We can find happiness in helping each other”.

This year’s contest marked the 65th edition of the annual beauty
showcase which was rocked with controversy after Miss Canada was
banned from the contest for criticizing China over its human rights abuses in her speech presentation.

The profile of the beauty queen from Canada was quietly removed from Miss World website and her name was never mentioned throughout the event.
