Speaker, Rivers Assembly, resigns

Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Adams Dabotorudima, has resigned from office. He abdicated the post on Friday in yet unclear circumstances.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers has been at the centre of an intense face-off with the federal government with each side accusing the other of plans to disrupt governance either at the centre or in the state.

On Friday, Senator Magnus Abe came hard on Wike for what he claimed was a hasty passage of Rivers 2017 budget. The role played by Dabotorudima in the passage of the said budget is still sketchy.

Dabotorudima’s resignation would make it the second time the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly would resign in a year. Dabotorudima’s predecessor in office, Mr. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, resigned on Friday, December 18, 2015

Details shortly.
