El-rufai steers new controversy, asks FG to hands off VAT

The exemption of Kaduna State from among the states where the All Progressives Congress (APC) will select their candidates for the 2019 general elections has been frowned at by a group, Kaduna State APC Aspirants and Stakeholders Forum.

The angry group, which rejected the decision of the party’s national executive led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, alleged that the decision to adopt indirect primaries in Kaduna was a plot to encourage vote buying.

The group’s spokesperson, Hassan Sandi, who made their position known to newsmen, argued that the process that led to the adoption of indirect primaries was not “consultative” enough.

He said, “Consequently, we, the teaming members of the APC, on the platform of Kaduna State Aspirants and Stakeholders Forum, reject this so-called ‘collective decision’ for what it is: the orchestrated outcome of yet another sham party process.

“We remain committed to direct primaries as the most efficacious mode of throwing up our best candidates to spar against those of opposition parties for the governorship and legislative positions in Kaduna State.”

There are speculations already that the adoption of indirect primary in Kaduna may lead to an implosion in the ruling party.

While the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai is said to have favoured indirect primaries, Senator Shehu Sani, a senatorial aspirant, who has remained the governor’s sworn enemy, and some aspirants in the state, had insisted on direct primaries.
