Sports ministry’s budget can’t paint Abuja stadium — Perm Sec

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr Olusade Adesola, says the entire budget of the ministry is not sufficient enough to paint the National Stadium, Abuja.

He, therefore, stated that the ministry would need more money to renovate the stadium ahead of the National Sports Festival scheduled for December 6 to 16.

The amount allocated to the sports ministry in the 2018 budget was N116bn. However, it could not be confirmed how much had been released to the ministry thus far.

On the cost of refurbishing the stadium, Adesola said, “Everything that we have will go into this stadium. Somebody asked if we are going to repaint the stadium and I said even the entire budget of the ministry, can it even repaint this stadium? So, everything we have will be put into it.

“You know we have resource constraints now and so we will just be doing the basics. How much do we even have? That is the critical question. We don’t even have as much to meet the need but we want to provide the basics.”
