Spurs End Manchester City’s Winning Streak

Tottenham was the team that finally brought Manchester City to their knees, handing them their first loss in the EPL. Of all the teams that might have stumbled, Manchester City this early in the season, the online betting community definitely didn’t expect Tottenham to be the ones that would do it.

But they did, ending City’s winning start to the English premier league. Tottenham beat City two goals to One at White Hart Lane. This was Pep Guardiola’s first loss in 12 games. This isn’t the first time Spurs have thrown a curve ball into the EPL.

The team was a standout last season, dominating for large spells at a time, though they eventually collapsed, unable to pursue Leicester to the finish line near the end. The previous season marked the first time the team actually contended for the league title in a generation; in beating City, they proved that their performance last season wasn’t a fluke.

Right now, Tottenham is the only unbeaten team in the premier league; they are also second place on the table and have yet to concede a goal in open play. With only a point separating them from City, Spurs are clearly looking to contend for the league title once more, this time successfully.

Aleksandar Kolarov initiated City’s downfall when he scored an own goal in the ninth minute of the first half, giving Spurs a dominant start to the game. Dele Alli scored a second goal soon after and considering how overwhelmed City’s defense looked, the goal wasn’t much of a surprise.

Considering the level to which people have been lauding them, City fans were probably shocked when their team’s attack failed to score for the very first time this season; the defense didn’t get any better as the game wore on. City, while unlikely to fall anytime soon, is clearly beginning to crack.

Unfortunately for Manchester United, they couldn’t take advantage of City’s failure, having drawn at home in a game with Stoke City; Arsenal, on the other hand, managed a win at Burnley.

+Manchester United 1, Stoke City 1

United had three straight victories at the start of the season, this before falling into a losing streak. The team has only won one of its last four league games. Anthony Martial gave United a lead before Joe Allen scored an equalizer for Stoke City.

United has thirteen points and sits at Sixth position in the table while Stoke City hasn’t won a single game this season.

+Burnley 0, Arsenal 1

Alex Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Laurent Koscielny all played a role in squeezing the ball across the line for Arsenal. The significance of the match couldn’t be ignored because it marked Arsene Wenger’s 20th year with Arsenal, a team that now sits at third place, just two points behind City.

+Leicester 0, Southampton 0

Leicester has only won two of the first seven games of their premier league title defense, which is disappointing. Leicester is presently undertaking their first champions’ league campaign ever and they seem to be doing well so far.

At this point, considering how poorly the premier league is treating them, they might have little choice but to seek success with the Champions’ League.
