Star sixes was fun apart from the results, Okocha says

Nigerian football legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has termed as fun Nigeria’s performance at the maiden edition of the Star Sixes tournament in London.

The 43-year old describes the 12-team ‘Legends World Cup’, which brought past football stars to the O2 Arena last weekend, as a thrilling experience regardless of his side’s results.

Okocha was captain of the Nigerian side, represented by Peter Rufai (goalkeeper), Celestine Babayaro, Uche Okechukwu, Joseph Yobo, Taribo West, Garba Lawal, Victor Ikpeba, Julius Aghahowa and Daniel Amokachi.

The team crashed out of the competition after a humiliating 8-1 defeat to Spain in the quarter finals. They reached that stage after finishing third in their group, having won China 3-2, and losing to Italy 2-1 and to Brazil 3-0.

France emerged champions of the competition on Sunday after defeating Denmark at the final.

But Okocha went on to thank fans for their support regardless of the team’s performance via an Instagram post.

“Star sixes was fun apart from the results#We came #But we could not conquer #Thank you for your support#God Bless you all,” Okocha wrote on Instagram.

The former skipper is currently at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) two-day symposium holding at Rabat Morrocco, alongside other African legends including Abedi Pele and Tony Baffoe.
