State of abattoirs: Lagosians at risk of food borne diseases

Published

on

The general state of abbatoirs in Lagos is worrisome. Improper handling and processing, coupled with poor transportation methods, unhygenic display and sale of meat is a common feature of slaughterhouses in the State.

Several abatoirs are not adopting standard hygienic practices or enforcing laid down safety precautions.

As a result, the risk of contaminated meat that is unfit for human consumption being sold to the public is quite high.
