'Strategic patience' on North Korea has ended, US VP says

US Vice President Mike Pence has declared that a policy of “strategic patience” on North Korea has ended- an indication that Washington may just be ready to flex muscles with Pyongyang.

Pence made the announcement during a surprise visit to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on his trip to South Korea.

“The era of strategic patience is over,” Pence said. “President Trump has made it clear that the patience of the United States and our allies in this region has run out and we want to see change. We want to see North Korea abandon its reckless path of the development of nuclear weapons, and also its continual use and testing of ballistic missiles is unacceptable,” he added.

The US backed by South Korea and Japanese forces has already agreed to deploy a Navy Strike group near the Korean peninsula as a show of force.

Reports say the Navy Strike group is already stationed at the Korean peninsula after making its way from the Western Pacific Ocean as concerns grow towards North Korea’s increasing missile activities.
