Strike will continue, NLC insists despite flop

The Nigeria Labour Congress has insisted that it will go ahead with the day two of its ongoing strike in protest of the increase in pump price of petrol.

This is against the backdrop that the first day of the protest was largely unsuccessful as many workers ignored the calls to stay home, but reported for duty in their respective offices.

Markets and private business were also opened for business, as commercial transporters went about their business in most major cities of the country.

Government has however called on the unions to return to the negotiation table to iron out the issues, even as it warned that they risk being arrested and prosecuted.

Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige said after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), also said that government would not encourage breaking into factions of the NLC.

He said government would rather work for the reunification of the factions, hence it decided to meet with all shades of opinions in the organised Labour.

The minister advised them to be conscious of the existing laws, in order not to run foul of them.
