Suarez helps Barca share points with Atletico

A late equalizer by Luis Suarez helped Barcelona maintain their unbeaten start to the season as they secured a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Saul Niguez gave Atletico Madrid the lead on 21 minutes with a 25-yard curling drive into the bottom corner, as the home side held on for long.

But nine minutes to stoppage time, Suarez salvaged a point for Barcelona when he connected with Sergi Roberto’s cross to head in at the far post.

Despite the draw, Barcelona still top the league table on 22 points, six ahead of Atletico who are third on 16 points.

Real Madrid, who snatched a 2-1 victory over Getafe earlier on Saturday, are second on 17 points.

Meanwhile, the Barca game was their first visit to the capital since the Catalan independence referendum, and Spain defender Gerard Pique, who had given his public support for the referendum, was booed at every touch of the ball.
