Sunday Akin Dare has been inaugurated to serve as Minister of Youth and Sports Development in President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term in office.
The 53-year-old was sworn-in on Wednesday at the council chamber alongside the other 42 ministers-designate, who will now handle the affairs of the nation until 2023.
Dare, a veteran Journalist and Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commission, is taking over from Barrister Solomon Dalung, who served as Sports Minister in Buhari’s first term and was not considered for re-appointment.
Dare holds a Masters in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and is a fellow of the Prestigious Harvard Nieman Journalism fellowship.
He is expected to hit the ground running as Team Nigeria is currently competing for laurels at the ongoing African Games in Morocco.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games as well as qualifiers for the next FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022 are some other showpieces that will require his urgent attention.
