Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) outfit, Sunshine Stars of Akure have parted ways with head coach, Duke Udi, citing ‘gross misconduct’ as reason.
Udi’s sack takes effect from Tuesday– two days after his side lost 1-0 to Go Round FC in the league– and it was made public via a statement by the club.
The statement, signed by the Ondo State Commissioner For Sports and Youth Development, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, added that former coach, Henry Abiodun has been named as Udi’s replacement.
“Following a letter received from the management board of Ondo State Football Agency on misconduct and insubordination of d head coach of the Sunshine Stars Duki Udi of a CAF Licence C category,” the statement revealed.
“The management board and the Ministry of Youth and Sports management at a joint meeting today (Tuesday) agreed that coach Duki Udi should step aside with effect from today 13th March and the Technical Director of the team, Coach Henry Abiodun of CAF licence A should lead the team.”
Sunshine Stars are currently on 17th spot with 13 points after 12 games in the NPFL this season.
They host Yobe Stars in their next league game, with new boss Abiodun as manager of the team.
