Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr says his team are about 69% ready for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) billed to kickoff in about three months.

The German gaffer made this known in a post-match interview after the team triumphed 1-0 over the Pharaohs of Egypt in an international friendly match in Asaba on Tuesday night.

Denmark-based Paul Onuachu was the decider of the encounter as his goal within the first minute ended up being the only goal of the game.

“The match was a great match for us and when you play a great team like Egypt which for me are one of the favorite for the AFCON and win it’s good,” Rohr said,

“All the time we must improve but let us enjoy this wonderful moment.”

“We scored a wonderful goal. Tomorrow we will analyse this game and go back to work on the team we have to make them better. I think the team is 70% ready but I like the number 69.”

“We decided to make a fast start. It was a planned goal from the kickoff. We have a tall striker from Denmark (Onuachu), he did very well but he has to improve still.”

“We made five changes with two local players making their debut. It will be good for them and their career.”

“What was interesting for me also in Asaba was that we had three wonderful victories. First, we beat Seychelles they the U23 team also trounced Libya and now we beat Egypt. So it was a good week for us.”

Onuachu was a debutant in the Seychelles clash. And Valentine Ozornwafor, Ikouwen Udoh and David Okereke were also handed debuts in the senior team.

The next FIFA international week will be between June 3rd and 11th, during which the Super Eagles of Nigeria will play another two friendlies as they continue preparations ahead of AFCON.

The Nations Cup is billed to hold between June 21 and July 19, 2019.
