Eguavoen feels Croatia defeat is crucial to how far Eagles will go in World Cup

The Super Eagles of Nigeria made a substantial improvement in the monthly FIFA World rankings, as they climbed five places from 52nd spot in March to 47th in the April edition.

The team’s rise in the latest ranking published on FIFA’s official website on Thursday will have been influenced by their performance in two pre-World Cup friendlies last month.

Nigeria defeated Poland 1-0 at Warsaw on March 23rd before losing 2-0 to Serbia in London four days later.

Eagles, formerly seventh in Africa, are now ranked sixth in the continent.

Reigning world champions, Germany remain at the summit of the ranking, followed by Brazil, Belgium, Portugal and Argentina in that order.

Switzerland are on sixth spot, France in seventh, Spain in eight, Chile in ninth and Poland in tenth.

The next edition of the ranking will be released on May 17, 2018.
