Super Eagles drop six places in FIFA rankings

Nigeria’s Super Eagles failed to maintain their world ranking despite their impressive 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon earlier this month.

In the latest rankings released on Thursday on FIFA’s official website, the Eagles, who were ranked 38th last month, dropped six places to 44th position.

However, Nigeria are now ranked fifth in the continent, as African champions, Cameroon dropped ten places to 45th.

The Eagles’ next World Cup qualifying opponents, Zambia, improved heavily in the rankings as they moved up 18 places to 78th.

World Cup holders, Germany returned to the top of the rankings ahead of Brazil who formerly occupied the position.
Portugal are ranked third, Argentina fourth, Belgium fifth and Poland sixth. Switzerland are seventh, France eighth, Chile ninth and Colombia tenth.
