Super Eagles Teams ‘A’ & ‘B’​ in closed door friendly, after botched B’Faso friendly

Following the cancellation of the scheduled international friendly between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Etalons of Burkina Faso, the Nigerian squad formed two teams among themselves and had a closed door tie at the Hive Stadium in London on Monday night.

Chelsea defender Ola Aina, Eberchi Eze from Queens Park Rangers, Chuba Akpom, Noah Bazee, Tyronne Ebuehi and Manchester City defender Nathan Oseni all made first appearance at the friendly.

NFF Boss and CAF Exco member, Mr. Amaju Pinnick, had mentioned in his statement following the cancellation of the Burkina Faso friendly, that part of the objectives of the London friendlies include “team bonding, team building, team discipline and further imparting of the Technical Adviser’s (Gernot Rohr) philosophy to the group.”

Hence, the match, which was played between Super Eagles Team ‘A’ and Team ‘B’ with all the coaching crew and directors present at the Hive Stadium, definitely served the purpose for which they converged.

Stand-in skipper Ogenyi Onazi led the Team ‘A’ side comprising of Daniel Akpeyi, Leon Balogun, Ola Aina, William-Troost Ekong, Elderson Echiejile, Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi.

The Team ‘B’ side captained by Kenneth Omeruo had Ikechukwu Ezenwa in goal, Tyronne Ebuehi at right-back, Chidozie Awaziem, Juwon Oshaniwa at left-back, Shehu Abudulahi, John Ogu in central midfield, Kayode Olanrewaju, Isaac Success, Ebere Eze.

The game ended 1-1 as Kelechi Iheanacho and Kayode Olanrewaju scored a goal each for their different sides.

“The mood in camp is awesome and the players coming in for the first time are fully committed to representing Nigeria at the international level so it’s a good omen for the team,” Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, told Completes Sports after the game.
