Super Falcons finish 3rd at China four-nation invitational

African champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria finished in third place at the just-concluded four-nation invitational tournament in China.

The Nigerian ladies defeated Romania 4-1 in their final match of the Tourney in Wuhua on Sunday.

The win over Romania, thanks to goals from Chiwendu Ihezuo, Onome Ebi, Rita Chikwelu and Ini Umotong, was the first time in 20 years that the Falcons would record a win against an European team.

Falcons had lost 3-0 to China in their first game of the competition, which is part of their preparations ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Steel Roses of China went on pip South Korea 1-0 in the final also on Sunday to win the tourney they hosted.

The Thomas Dennerby’s team is also billed to participate in the Cyprus Women’s Cup from the 25th February to the 7th of March 2019.

The other teams to take part in the competition are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Italy, North Korea, Mexico, Slovakia, South Africa and Thailand.
