WAFU: Super Falcons fall to Ghana on penalties

Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, Super Falcons, came from behind to beat Mali 2-1 in the 2018 WAFU Women’s Cup third place match in Abidjan on Saturday.

The Malians got ahead in the ninth minute as Fatoumata Diarra opened the scoring, before Nigeria’s Chinaza Uchendu netted in the15th and 39th minutes to seal victory.

The bronze is a consolation for the Nigerian ladies who were not lucky enough to make it to the final of the competition as they lost on penalties to Ghana in the semi-finals.

The final of the regional tournament– its maiden edition– will be played later on Saturday between hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Black Queens of Ghana.
