Supreme court reinstates disbarred ex-gov Oyinlola's Lawyer

A five-man panel of the Supreme Court on Friday overturned the decision of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee that disbarred a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Kunle Kalejaye in 2015.

Kalejaye, a lawyer to former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State was handed the sanction for engaging in “conduct unbecoming of a legal practitioner’’.

He was alleged to have engaged in a private communication with the Chairman of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in 2008 while representing his client who was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Rauf Aregbesola who was the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria had challenged the Victory of Oyinlola in the 2007 polls.

The matter was bought before the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal.

Kalejaye was said to have been involved in a phone conversation with the Chairman of the Tribunal without the knowledge of the other party.

The LPDC found him guilty and he was disbarred on May 21, 2015.
