SLAINED POLICEMEN: Reps minority caucus wants Nigerian govt to set up judicial commission

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has said Wednesday’s verdict on the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was “surprising to many Nigerians.”

They, however, noted that the decision was final as it was from the Supreme Court, which is the highest court in the land.

The minority caucus assured Nigerians that the judgment would not deter the opposition from carrying out its constitutional role of ensuring checks and balances in the system.

House Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, in a statement on Wednesday, stated that the development would not detract from the commitment and determination by the opposition in the house to always protect the interest of Nigerians by ensuring accountability, equity, fairness and strict adherence to the rule of law in all aspects of governance.

He also commended Nigerians for standing with the PDP throughout the litigation process, saying that all hope was not lost, “as the opposition will continue to insist on due process as well as propagate alternatives on programmes and policies in the general interest of the citizens.”
