Suspect who killed 5, injured 8 at US airport detained

Florida police have detained the key suspect who killed five people and injured eight others in a shooting at Fort Lauderdale airport.

Recall the attacker opened fire at the baggage claim area of Terminal 2 as passengers were collecting their luggage. Witnesses said he walked along the carousals and did not say anything as he shot people who were trying to run or hide.

The suspect has been identified by police as 26-year-old Esteban Santiago, an Iraq war veteran and officials say they have not ruled out terrorism as a possible motive.

US media say the man may have been mentally disturbed. He reportedly said the government was controlling his mind and made him watch jihadist videos.
