Suspected herdsmen invade Kogi communities, hack 25 to death

Three communities in Kogi State namely Oganienugwu, Ikende and Dekina Local Government Area in Kogi State have reportedly been attacked by suspected herdsmen.

The attack according to local sources claimed no less than 25 persons who were killed with reports revealing that scores of villagers are reportedly moving out of Obakume, Idirisu, and Oji Apata to escape further attacks.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants who struck unexpectedly tied their victims up; while those who attempted to escape alleged received deadly machete cuts.

The incident was confirmed by Mr. Monday Bala, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, who revealed that command was yet to ascertain the actual casualty figure after the deadly attack.

The incident is coming a day after a Catholic Catechist identified as Mr. Christopher Unenge and two others Aondowase Uma and Ahanbee Uma were killed in separate incidents by rampaging herdsmen who invaded -Igbe in Nyiev, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to reports, the catechist, who worshiped at the Roman Catholic Mission (RCM) Church, Orogbo in Guma, was attacked by the herdsmen who opened fire and killed him while on his way to attend a morning mass on Tuesday with his in-law Ayem Mbakuughur.

However, the in-law of the deceased was lucky to escape the attack of the herdsmen after they ran into the serial killers.
