Suspected herdsmen reportedly kill 10 in Benue community

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen reportedly killed 10 in the Olegomachi community of Agatu local government area of Benue State on Tuesday.

The attackers also set ablaze buildings and looted properties in the community.

The caretaker chairman of Agatu LGA, Phillip Ebenyakwu, confirmed the attack to journalists on Wednesday.

He said: “Gunmen yesterday (Tuesday) evening attacked the Olegomachi community with sophisticated weapons. 10 people were killed in the attack.

“The attackers also looted properties and burnt seven houses.

“In addition, they took away animals, including goats and chickens.”

However, the spokesperson for the state police command, Catherine Anene, said the incident has not been reported to the command.
