The long arm of the law has caught up with a suspected robber’s armourer Alhaji Badamosi Mohammed after he was nabbed by men of the Kwara State Police Command with a large cache of arms and ammunition.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusola Amore, the suspect who reportedly has links with some criminals operating in the Jebba and Kaiama areas of the state was arrested after a tip-off.

Speaking on behalf of the CP, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said that following the tip-off, a team of detectives from the command’s ‘Operation Harmony,’ was detailed to investigate the case leading to a search which was conducted on Mohammed’s shop located in Kaiama Local Government Area.

The CP who informed that the suspect had confessed to the crime and would soon be prosecuted said that during the search, “an AK-47 rifle, seven live 7.62mm ammunition and one Ghana-made single-barrelled gun were recovered”.

However, when fielding questions from newsmen, Mohammed denied that he is an armed robber.

“I am not an armed robber, somebody gave me the gun. Karimi gave me the gun to keep for him. I have not followed anybody on an armed robbery operation. I have never killed anybody. I am not the owner of the gun. The person who owns the gun is a member of vigilance group. He kept it in a sack and gave it to me. I just kept it for a day. It was the same day that the police arrested me,” he said.

Some robbers have more ammunition than the entire Nigeria police force and that’s why they have the celebrated title “armed”. The federal government needs to block all leakages in the security system

Nigeria’s security system is even better, we have less cases of armed robbery unlikely how it used to be in the past. Everyone involved in one crime or another will still get nabbed by the security forces. I have confidence in the current quality of the Nigeria police.

“I am not an armed robber, somebody gave me the gun. Karimi gave me the gun to keep for him,” he’s a thief too, he kept gun for armed robber, that means he’s making their job easier
