More suspects in kidnap of staff, students of Turkish sch in police net

Men of the Nigeria Police have continued the chase of suspects involved in the kidnap of some staff and students of the Nigerian Turkish International Colleges (NTIC) in Isheri, Ogun State.

This has led to the arrest of two more suspects in connection with the recent kidnap, though the victims were all freed three days ago.

According to Donald Awunah, spokesman of the Nigerian Police Force, the suspects were arrested by an IGP Intelligence Response Team, working with the Tactical Intelligence Unit of the Force, in a joint operation supervised by AIG Kayode Aderanti, AIG Zone 2, Lagos.

Awunah said the suspects Totki Okoda and 29-year-old Bekewei Agbojule aka Prince Yello who was nabbed with the sum of N1.2 million in his possession suspected to be ransom received were both nabbed in the creeks bringing the number of arrested suspects connected to the case to four after the earlier arrest of Philip Kakadu, aka General Kakadu, a militant leader, Romeo Council, aka Raw.

“In the course of investigation into the kidnap, three suspects namely, Kakadu, Council and Okoda, who lived in the fishermen’s community behind the school and provided information about the victims to his gang, were trailed and arrested at different locations in Delta, Ogun and Lagos states for the criminal roles they played in the crime.”

According to the police, further investigation and sustained pursuit of the matter by the IRT led to the arrest of Agbojule, a principal suspect and one of the key members of the gang, on January 25 at about 7am.

“The suspect, who is an Ijaw from Arogbo town in Ondo State, was arrested after he came out of the creeks to enjoy his loot.

“About N1.2m, which was his share of the ransom, was recovered from him. The four suspects have confessed to the crime, volunteered useful statements to investigators and are cooperating with the police.

“Concerted efforts are being made to arrest the remaining suspects who are at large. All the suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation,” Awunah added.
