Suspended PDP Dep Nat’l Chairman joins APC

Less than 48 hours after the news of his suspension as the Deputy National Chairman (North) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDp) Senator Babayo Gamawa has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Gamawa briefed newsmen at the state house shortly after a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.

President Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, also made public the defection of Babawo to APC Tuesday.

He posted pictures of Mr Gamawa and the governor of Bauchi state, Mohammed Abubakar, when they visited the president at his official residence, on his Facebook page.

Adesina said, ”President Buhari receives in audience new entrant into APC, former deputy national chairman of PDP, Senator Babayo Garba Gamawa and Hon. Kaulaha Aliyu, alongside Bauchi State governor in State House on 8th Jan 2019.”

The PDP had on Monday announced Gamawa suspension over allegations of ‘ dereliction of duty and anti-party activity”.

The party had at at its NWC extraordinary session on January 5, where it reviewed allegations against Babawo, said the party “found merit in the petition against Babawo on allegation of dereliction of duty and anti-party activity as contained in Section 58 (1) e, f, g, h of the PDP Constitution.”

Gamawa said the PDP would regret losing him while saying his decision to join the ruling party was to align himself with the development effort of President Buhari.
